The Gender Problem

This two-part series reflects on the stereotyping of gender; revealing the inflexible boxes that society has placed us into. This piece highlights the social restraints that the female and male genders experience.*

Toxic Masculinity

Men have historically been criticized for exhibiting stereotypically feminine traits. While demonstrating the oppressive standards in being considered a ‘true man,’ this piece also highlights how female traits have been inherently considered undesirable by society.

Rigid Femininity

Being a woman can be a confining experience. No matter how women act, their actions will be demonized by society. Influences from Charlotte Perkins Stetson’s, The Yellow Wallpaper, and 50s housewife tropes communicate the sentiment of the ‘housewife gone insane’ from the confinement of societal norms.
